Sanya embarked on this ambitious project on January 2, 2025, at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. Over the course of 72 continuous hours, she and her dedicated team meticulously constructed the massive footwear, completing it on January 4. The event garnered significant attention, with notable figures such as musicians Mayorkun, Pheelz, P.Priime, and filmmaker Korty EO showing their support.

Reflecting on her journey, Sanya shared, “I started designing shoes when I was 12, and by 14, I was selling them to fund a ‘habit’ I couldn’t afford.” She expressed profound gratitude to those who believed in her vision, emphasizing the significance of undertaking this record-breaking attempt in Nigeria, the country of her birth.

The previous Guinness World Record for the largest sandal was held by a team of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, Mexico, who, in 2016, created a traditional sandal measuring 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) long and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) wide. Sanya’s creation surpasses these dimensions, and her submission is currently under review by Guinness World Records for official recognition.

This achievement not only highlights Sanya’s exceptional talent but also underscores the vibrant and innovative spirit of Nigerian designers on the global stage.
